Applications and Characteristics

Coil-wound heat exchangers (CWHE) are advantageous for clean media, with a broad temperature and pressure range and suitable for single phase as well as two phase streams. Several streams can be accommodated in one exchanger. The spiral-wound heat exchanger is known for its robustness in particular, during start-up und shut-down or plant trip conditions.

Applications

Coil-wound heat exchangers are used for a wide range of applications for treatment of clean fluids in hot and cold applications.

The main applications are:

Cooler

Heater

Liquefier

Vaporizer

Isothermal Rector

Characteristics

Each exchanger is designed based on customer requirements considering thermal and hydraulic performance, and adequate material selection to suite temperature range and corrosion resistance. Pressures of up to 100 bar and more are not
uncommon.

The special features of the geometry and the possibilities to use a practically unrestricted range of materials ensure a wide field of applications. Spiral-wound heat exchangers are manufactured in austenitic steels, aluminium alloys, carbon steel, nickel and chrome/moly alloys.

The heating surface of one unit can exeed 20,000 square meters. At the moment the maximum diameter is limited to 7,500 mm, with a weight of approximately 260 tonnes per unit. Larger diameters or higher unit weights are feasible and will be checked on customers request. In these cases the final assembly will take place in workshops which are close to water ways.
